DC DAY! | June 28th

UPDATE!
Need help finding us? Call or text 773-234-1280

We are adjusting all days earlier due to the heat. Please stay posted to this page for timing.

Check here on the day you will be joining the march to confirm time/location of MEETUP. Weather and other conditions may lead us to alter the Meetup times.

SAFETY
Detailed maps/routes will be provided  on the day of the event.  For advance viewing of these, please reach out to your Indivisible or 50501 leadership.  Our email is 12daystodemocracy@gmail.com.
Thank you for your understanding.

ROADWAYS
We are avoiding high-speed roadways.  This is our priority, hence the shuttle from Chesapeake City to Bel Air. The majority of the march is on sidewalks, and when there is no sidewalk, we have 3 cars to be arrayed behind, to our flank, and in front. The police are aware of our march and routes, and have been friendly and accommodating.

ROADWAY NEEDS
We have an RV traveling with us with a shower and a toilet.

NOTE: There will be water breaks every 45-60 minutes during the march. It's early summer...but summer nonetheless. We encourage participants to bring their favorite electrolyte tablet, and we will have plenty of water available to participants at all times.

To Chester where MLK attended seminary school and cultivated his practice of non-violent protest. Dinner with civic leaders.

This day focuses on Transportation. Transportation in Chester is under attack. Cutbacks are forcing the closing of lines, which in turn will cost residents their jobs, many of whom commute to Philadelphia or further for work. The losses far exceed the "efficiencies".

Day 3: Wed, Jun 18 | 11.9 miles to Wilmington

MEETUP: 7:30AM Calvary Church [please check in day of march for time update] March ends: Downtown Wilmington ~3pm Highlights: Dinner/Lodging at local place of worship (location to be shared with participants) Enjoy Wilmington Jazz Fest, Free Festival Starting on This Day By morning we will pass through Delaware County, PA into the Brandywine Valley and, by afternoon, we will cross the Brandywine River into Wilmington. Along this river were the original DuPont Company gunpowder mills. DuPont's gunpowder mill on the Brandywine River near Wilmington, Delaware, played a significant role in supplying gunpowder to several freedom movements throughout history, chief among them the American Civil War and General Ulysses S. Grant’s Union Army. During the Civil War, DuPont was a major supplier of black powder to the Union forces, and the company's founder, French exile Henry du Pont, was a Unionist who supported the U.S. government. Entering into Wilmington, the group will stop at their accommodations for the night at The Episcopal Church of Saints Andrew and Matthew (SSAM), a church with a truly unique history. You can learn more at their website: SSAM.ORG After a bit of a rest and some much needed sustenance provided by local Indivisible.org chapters, the group will head .2 miles around the corner (by foot or shuttle--marchers decision!) to Rodney Square where, on Juneteenth Eve, they will enjoy the opening night, entitled, “CELEBRATION OF BLACK JOY AND FRIENDS” at the 38th Annual Clifford Brown Jazz Festival, a free Jazz event.

MEETUP 8:30AM Saints Andrew and Matthew Episcopal Church // March Ends: 2PM Immanuel Episcopal Church 7pm RAIN LOCATION: NEW CASTLE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH Singalong for the Public! NOT AT Battery Park, New Castle, DE Begin at Saints Andrew and Matthew Episcopal Church (SsAM) in downtown Wilmington. Gather for a brief welcome, intention-setting, and overview of the day. FINISH: ~2 PM Immanuel Episcopal Church, founded in 1706, one of the oldest church buildings in continuous use in the U.S. The group will continue from SSAM to the Tubman-Garrett Park situated on the beautiful Christiana River, marchers will cross the river by foot, then pick up a portion of the Harriet Tubman Byway as they make their way through Southbridge, a Historically Black neighborhood in Wilmington. They will then continue their journey until it concludes for the day at the 350 year old town of Old New Castle on the banks of the Delaware River. Here, they will enjoy the scenic beauty at the pier at Penn’s Landing, where William Penn landed in 1682 when he came to take over the Governance of the Colony of Pennsylvania, of which Delaware was then a part. Marching further into the heart of the old city, marchers will be transported to an another era, as they are surrounded in the charming atmosphere of this 350 year-old colonial town. Marchers will enjoy a community dinner at one of the oldest church buildings (1706) and oldest existing continuing congregations (1648) in United States, an a interactive Juneteenth Justice concert is being planned for afterwards.

MEETUP: 8AM Battery Park, New Castle, DE March Ends: 5PM Chesapeake City Overnighting Marchers will awaken in a dreamy 350 year old colonial towne (with an effort emphasis!) and after breakfast, will meet with local marchers in Old New Castle’s Battery Park on the Delaware River waterfront to begin the day with music and stretching and then will proceed to the Mike Castle Trail that will take them to Delaware City, another colonial town and then they will continue on the paved nature trail that runs alongside the scenic Chesapeake and Delaware (C&D) Canal that connects the Delaware River with the Northern Chesapeake Bay until they arrive in Chesapeake City, Maryland.
