Is democracy really a "losing issue" because it is "too abstract?" Citizen H says no.

Democracy is abstract, like love.
Democracy is abstract, like friendship and trust.
Democracy is abstract, like hope and kindness and dignity.

And freedom– that’s an abstraction, too.

So...

You think it’s a losing issue?

You think Americans don’t understand?

Citizen H imagines that most of us understand more than we might realize....

And possibly, right now–when all these abstractions are under attack and other abstractions, like fear and corruption and resignation, are taking their place– maybe this is when we realize something.

It’s the abstract stuff that makes all the difference.

Of course, there are other questions, as well... Like, what does democracy mean for you? And how might you talk about if, when faced with an American who may not "get it" yet?

Citizen H wants to know how you think about this stuff.
